Scuola materna Capuana

Firenze, Italy - 2011

The project is part of a proposal for participation in a public tender for an integrated design and execution contract based on an existing project drawn up by the municipality of Florence.

The proposed modifications concerned the rationalization and characterization of the external spaces, the internal ones and a new solution for the roofing of the building.

The new cover is presented as a large slightly arched sheet to welcome and protect the precious underlying school functions. The surface is populated by an apparently random plot of semi-spherical skylights, many glass bubbles, large and small playful objects that transfigure the large roof into an almost dreamlike dimension that manages to stimulate children's imagination. From the inside, looking up at the sky, the children can see, through these thousand eyes, the tones and the colors of the seasons.
